Prospects for parity-nonconservation experiments with highly charged heavy ions.

چکیده
We discuss the prospects for parity non-conservation experiments with highly charged heavy ions. Energy levels and parity mixing for heavy ions with two to five electrons are calculated. We investigate two-photontransitions and the possibility to observe interference effects between weakmatrix elements and Stark matrix elements for periodic electric field configurations.

Effect of the parity nonconservation with laser-induced 23S1 - 21S0 transition
Investigations of parity nonconservation (PNC) effects with heavy few-electron ions can provide new opportunities for tests of the Standard Model in the low-energy regime. This is mainly due to the fact that, in contrast to neutral atoms, in highly charged ions the electroncorrelation effects are suppressed by a factor 1/Z and, therefore, can be accounted for by perturbation theory to a high ac...
متن کاملAtomic Parity-Violation in Highly-Charged Ions
The investigation of parity-violation (PV) in forbidden atomic transitions is an active and fundamental research area, especially for its implications on the physics beyond the Standard Model [1]. Atomic transitions may be employed to study PV effects originating from weak neutral currents, i.e. due to the exchange of a Z boson between a nucleon of the nucleus and a bound electron. Experiments ...
متن کاملParity nonconservation in dielectronic recombination of multiply charged ions
We discuss a parity nonconserving (PNC) asymmetry in the cross section of dielectronic recombination of polarized electrons on multiply charged ions with Z & 40. This effect is strongly enhanced for close doubly-excited states of opposite parity in the intermediate compound ion. Such states are known for He-like ions. However, these levels have large energy and large radiative widths which hamp...
متن کاملParity Nonconservation in Relativistic Hydrogenic Ions
Hydrogenic systems are attractive objects for precision measurements of parity nonconservation (PNC) since their simple atomic structure allows for accurate theoretical calculations necessary for relating the observed effects to the standard model. Various possibilities for PNC experiments with hydrogenic ions have been discussed in the literature. Most of the early work dealt with the PNC cont...

We discuss a parity nonconserving asymmetry in the cross section of KLL dielectronic recombination of polarized electrons on the hydrogen-like ions with Z ∼ 60. This effect is strongly enhanced because of the near-degeneracy of doubly-excited 2l2l states of opposite parity in He-like ions. For ions with Z ∼ 30 the asymmetry is of the order of 10. For Z ≈ 48 a level crossing takes place, leading...
